Good's Not Good Enough

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Fred_Nicklaus]Fred Nicklaus

Recently Ive been spending one hour two times per week with a very determined, talented young man. His name is Scott and he is an exceptional basketball player. This year he lead his high school team to a 2nd place finish in the Wisconsin State Basketball playoffs. He was also named the co-winner of the Mr. Basketball award in the State of Wisconsin. He has received a full scholarship to attend Marquette University and will play basketball there.

Even though Scott is a marvelous basketball player his example can apply to anyone in any sport or profession. Here are a few things that Ive witnessed in Scotts work.

- He realizes that being good today will not be good enough tomorrow.

- Hes willing to try new methods of training to help him achieve his goals even if theyre uncomfortable at first.

- He overcomes mistakes quickly and spends very little time beating himself up.

- He realizes that there are no gifts, no free lunches. The only gifts are those that you give yourself by hard work, commitment to goals, and belief in yourself.

Scott has taken the time to develop these attitudes. Hes realistic, he takes responsibility, and he doesnt make excuses. During it all he even takes time to smile and have a good time. Hes going to do just fine. Help yourself by expecting a little more. Remember that the secret of happiness is effort and happiness is the key to success.
